While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are working through OTAs and minicamp is soon after, it is never too early to start looking at the state of the roster. After all, training camp will be here before you know it.
In the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Bucs selected outside linebacker Jose Ramirez out of Eastern Michigan thinking he had the chance at becoming a strong depth piece or special teams standout, at the very least.
Two years later, though, the Buccaneers have made recent moves that suggest he very well could be on the outside looking in, just like he has been in the past.
Jose Ramirez might have a difficult time making the final Buccaneers roster come training camp
The Bucs went out and signed Haason Reddick in free agency, which was one of their more notable offseason moves. But, the additions didn't stop there.
Tampa Bay also opted to select David Walker out of Central Arkansas in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. While both are technically believed to slot in on the left side and Ramirez is on the right, it's worth noting the team's additions at outside backer, regardless.
Let's not forget the drafting of Chris Braswell just last year, who is penciled in on the right side behind Yaya Diaby.
The group also has to contend with the likes of veterans Anthony Nelson and Markees Watts, not to mention the undrafted Warren Peeples out of Southeastern Louisana.
Now, don't forget what made Ramirez such a tantalizing name coming out of college. Although he went to a smaller program, he came in having notched 18.5 sacks and 31.5 tackles for loss over his final two collegiate seasons.
In short, he wants the football and he'll do anything to get to it. At least, that's what we saw coming out into the pros. But, in order to ensure a roster spot, Ramirez is going to have to remind this coaching staff exactly why he belongs.
