The Tampa Bay Buccaneers typically field a rather physical offensive line. On Saturday, they drafted Billy Schrauth, a Notre Dame guard who has a deliberate mean streak.
Every NFL team can use a little extra juice, especially in the trenches. Schrauth was asked what it would be like to block for two first-round running backs. His reply should be a message to those runners. It will be a message to the rest of the division.

Buccaneers' draft pick sends crystal clear message to his running backs and the NFC South
Schrauth has started the last two years and was named a captain for the Fighting Irish. A roadgrading guard with a mauler mentality, the Bucs new interior lineman will fight from day one for a starting job.
Fans are going to love the attitude, but until he puts it on the field, it will be a wait-and-see type of approach. Notre Dame typically turns out good offensive lineman, but not all of the transition well to the next level.
Oliver VanDervoort of Slap the Sign sees a quality lineman who still has a lot of work to do before he starts to back up his statement.
"Billy Schrauth has some talent, as anyone who starts on the offensive line with Notre Dame is going to have. However, he was never as dominant as he was expected to be, despite being a monster, build-wise. The most unfortunate part is that Schrauth was off to his best season in 2025 and was knocking people off the line and collecting pancakes as he lived in a Waffle House. Unfortunately, he suffered a left knee injury in just seven games. He could be a nice backup, UDFA."Oliver VanDervoort
Tampa made a mentally strong addition that players will circle around, but he has to shed the dominance issue, which seems to be the opposite of what he loves to do. He has room to develop, and if he can take the coaching, he should become a starter within another year, if not day one, if he takes that direction to heart.
