For the second time this season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are getting ready for a home game where they'll likely be facing a backup quarterback.

Justin Fields did not play for the Jets when New York traveled to Tampa for the Buccaneers' home opener, and it sounds like the San Francisco 49ers are in a similar boat ahead of Week 6.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it appears Mac Jones is on track to start Sunday's game with Brock Purdy dealing with an injury. There's still a lot of time between now and then for things to change, but it seems as though Tampa Bay will be facing its second backup quarterback of the season.

This is a pretty nice break for the Bucs, although less so than what was the case earlier this year against the Jets. Unlike Tyrod Taylor, who was stepping into the starting role for the first time this year, Jones will be starting his third game and is hot off one of the best performances of his career.

San Francisco is missing a ton of players to injury, yet that didn't stop Jones from waltzing into SoFi Stadium and helping the Niners take down the Rams as underdogs. He finished that game with 342 yards and two touchdowns, as San Francisco gutted out an overtime win in a one-score game.

That all sounds eerily familiar to the razor's edge Tampa Bay has been living on all season.

Add to that the fact that the Bucs might be without some defensive help again in Week 6. Both Jamel Dean and Benjamin Morrison missed last week's win over the Seahawks, and the Bucs have been without Christian Izien all season. The good news is that two of those guys were practicing this week, but Bucs fans have learned not to get too excited about players' health until we actually see them on the field during a game.

So while the prospect of facing yet another backup quarterback seems like a nice little break, there's no reason to believe it will be a breezy afternoon on Sunday.
