While not confirmed, Bucky Irving is trending toward returning from injury this weekend when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Cardinals.

Scott Smith reported that the Bucs will likely utilize Irving in a similar capacity as Chris Godwin was used in Week 12 in his long-awaited return from injury.

Irving stepped in front of the media on Wednesday for the first time in his absence and seemed incredibly positive. He also practiced in full on Wednesday, showing he may be in line for playing time on Sunday. It feels like his return is imminent, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

The second-year running back was missed, and a lot changed in his absence. Rachaad White severely struggled, leading Sean Tucker to assume the RB2 role entirely. Tucker secured his second career 100+ rushing yard performance, but wasn't used much in the passing game.

Before his Week 4 injury, Irving averaged 59 rushing yards per game, but nearly five catches and 50 yards receiving per game.

Last season, he was heavily used in the passing game, but the first month of this season was different. In his final game, against the Eagles, Irving caught five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Bucky Irving returning in Week 13 is a win for everyone

The Bucs have struggled in recent weeks and lost three straight. Whether it's passing or running, Irving provides a massive boost the Bucs desperately need. If Baker Mayfield is out this week, backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will rely heavily on Irving, especially amidst all injuries.

Godwin finally returned last week, but he wasn't involved much. Despite a pass-heavy scheme due to the massive deficit, Godwin only caught two passes for nine yards. He'll receive a play count boost this week, but it might not be 100% until Week 14.

Even if Irving joins for 20-30% of the snaps, that's a win for all parties involved. His injury was littered with ample speculation, and fans never truly knew the truth. Unfortunately, that's what happens with Todd Bowles and injuries.

He typically keeps news close to his chest, but key decisions, or lack there of, were odd. Irving hasn't played since Week 4, two months ago, and he wasn't placed on the injured reserve. Godwin was out for nearly two months, and wasn't placed on the IR either.

With controversies hopefully behind us, let's hope Irving and Co. stay healthy this coming week, and are prepared for the back half of the season.
