Haason Reddick getting $14 million from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is a good reason for him to buy into being a meaingful piece of the team, but it sounds like there’s another reason as well.
Reddick has only been with the Bucs for a few months, and has spent even less time with the team at offseason camp. That hasn’t stopped him from seeing how special Baker Mayfield is and endorsing all that he represents for the team.
While speaking with the media at minicamp this week, Reddick heaped praise on Baker and said exactly the type of thing that is going to get him on all the right sides of the locker room.
Haason Reddick heaps praise on Baker Mayfield at Buccaneers minicamp
"A warrior. A hard-fought guy. I respect Baker a lot because he's another person in this league that has had ups and downs and continues to strive to be as great as he wants to be or continues to strive for greatness," Reddick said. "I have tremendous respect for him. I love his game. I do think he has a warrior's mentality and I think he's one of the QBs in this league that's on the more physical end."
It’s more than just an exchange of pleasantries, it’s another sign that the Bucs hit the jackpot with Baker.
Reddick isn’t going to come out and dump on his new quarterback after just arriving, but the fact that he’s only been in Tampa for less than four months and can already have this strong of an opinion on Mayfield says more than all of the praise he heaped ever could. This continues the trend of players getting in the locker room with him and having nothing but fantastic things to say, which a glowing endorsement the Bucs need heading into next season.
We’re in Year 3 of the Baker Era, and the stakes are Super Bowl-or-bust. That in of itself is a massive feather his cap, but he’d likely prefer a Lombardi Trophy instead. That sentiment is shared by everyone, and hearing Reddick already be so bought in on the team’s leader suggests the vibes are once again immaculate heading into a critical season for the Bucs.
