After four years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it's crystal clear that running back Rachaad White won't be returning to the team that drafted him. The former third-round pick had his ups and downs with the Bucs but ultimately, it's okay that both sides are going to move on. It allows the Bucs to reset their running back depth and allows White a chance to find an opportunity elsewhere.
It feels like his future home is a no-brainer, however. Matt Conner of Arrowhead Addict laid out the perfect reasons why the Kansas City Chiefs will likely be the next home for White in the NFL and everything he said makes too much sense for this not to happen.
"Spotrac projects his market value to be $7.4 million over a two-year, $14.7M deal. That level of commitment should look very palatable to a team like the Chiefs, which will need to look at mid-market options when they can find them," Conner wrote. "Kansas City could offer him a place to bloom in a hopefully dynamic offense with a team aiming to rebound quickly to contender status ... playing for Andy Reid and with Patrick Mahomes is always going to be a draw. And if he shines over those two seasons, it's possible another payday is waiting for him on the other side."
Rachaad White ending up with the Chiefs feels imminent
Conner didn't mention that White is from Kansas City originally, which is just another reason the Chiefs make sense as a landing spot for him. The bottom line though is that the Chiefs need help at running back and White, who hails from the city they play in and likely grew up a Chiefs fan, can give them that help.
It's always a bummer when draft picks don't pan out but White's time in Tampa could have gone far worse. He's 27 years old, not a starter, and clearly wants a fresh start somewhere else so the writing is on the wall and the Chiefs would be an excellent landing spot for him to jump start the next phase of his career.
