The deal gives Vea a $6 million raise for the 2026 season and keeps him under contract with Tampa Bay through 2027.
It’s a long-awaited solution that officially puts Vea’s hold-in and trade request to bed. It also likely means his “back injury” is cured, and he can return to practice with the Buccaneers.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Vita Vea agree to a contract extension
The Bucs never seriously considered trading Vea, despite his request and several teams expressing interest, and it was only a matter of time before they came to a resolution that got the star defensive tackle back on the field.
The $6 million in new money for the 2026 season means he’ll earn $24 million, up from $18 million, which puts him among the top-10 highest-paid defensive tackles.
According to Fox Sports' Greg Auman, altogether, it's a fully-guaranteed $48 million deal, giving Vea $24 million in annual value over the next two seasons.
It’s a masterclass of a deal that benefits both sides. Vea gets a well-deserved raise and an extra year of commitment from Tampa Bay. The Bucs get to hold onto the anchor of their defensive line for the next two seasons, and no longer have to worry about negotiating with him next offseason.
Vea is the centerpiece of everything the Buccaneers do defensively. Since he became a full-time starter in 2019, Tampa Bay boasts the NFL’s No. 1 rushing defense. He’s also one of the most disruptive pass rushers from the defensive tackle position, totaling 17 sacks over the last three seasons.

Vea has been with the Buccaneers since they drafted him in the first round in 2018, and this deal ensures that he’ll now play his ninth and 10th seasons in Tampa Bay.
After a tense negotiating period filled with uncertainty, the Bucs can breathe a sigh of relief as they finally have their answer with Vea.
The star defensive tackle is staying home in Tampa Bay, getting the lucrative raise he wanted, and has the security of another year on his contract. More importantly, the Buccaneers can move forward knowing one of their most important players is locked in for the next two seasons.
Now, Vea can get back to doing what he does best for the Bucs: making life miserable for opposing offenses.
