Buccaneers could be a potential landing spot for Giants star in blockbuster draft trade

As far as random ideas go, this one ain't half bad.

The NFL Draft is somehow still a week away, which stinks because we have all officially run out of things to talk about. You'd think that you never run out of things to talk about in the NFL, but here we are, which might be a symptom of how underwhelmed it seems most execs are about this year's class.

All of that is to say, the rumor mill is being leaned on heavier than usual thanks to [gestures at everything]. Unless we want to re-litigate how big of a deal it is that Will Campbell has short arms, our task for the next week is finding something to overanalyze like our life depends on it.

Luckily the internet thrives on making something out of nothing, and Fox Sports did us all a huge solid today by publishing a big ol' list of trade candidates across the league. As far as outlandish and random ideas go, though, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might want to will Ralph Vacchiano's list into existence because it would be a dream scenario.

If Kayvon Thibodeaux is actually available for trade, the Bucs need to pounce immediately

Tampa Bay's candidate to trade is Rachaad White, which is notable enough, but the real eye-catching name on this list is brought to us by the New York Football Giants. If there's any sort of legitimacy to the idea that the Giants would trade Kayvon Thibodeaux, the Bucs should be on the phone right now.

Seriously. Like, this very instant. Jason Licht, start dialing!

"Trading a 25-year-old pass rusher who had 11.5 sacks two years ago wouldn't make a lot of sense for a rebuilding team … unless it knows it's got a replacement ready. So, this really depends on whether the Giants end up drafting Penn State's Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick. If they do, they might conclude that they're not going to pay Thibodeaux big money when his contract expires after the season (or after 2026, if they pick up his fifth-year option), especially when they've already got huge money committed to DE Brian Burns and DT Dexter Lawrence. It might hurt them in the short term, but a deal could be a long-term help because a player like Thibodeaux could bring multiple premium draft picks in return," Vacchiano wrote.

Fire the cannons.

I absolutely love that their argument more-or-less boils down to, "if any team is dopey enough to trade a young, ascending star, it's the New York Giants." Fox Sports, perhaps I treated you too harshly. The Bucs could certainly use an 11.5 sack guy on their line – although who couldn't? – and it's not very often that you get the opportunity to trade for an elite(ish) edge rusher at 25 years old.

Get on the phone, Jason Licht. I know you probably have a lot of other phone calls to make between now and next Thursday, but maybe find some time on your calendar for this one.
