Alvin Kamara has dominated the NFL and the Bucs since his rookie campaign in 2017. After eight historic seasons, Kamara has slowed down in 2025 due to injury and age. This week, he likely won't suit up against the Bucs, and that's probably for the best.
No one ever wants another player to be injured, but the Bucs wouldn't mind if he sat out another week and skipped the trip to Tampa Bay. Due to an MCL strain in Week 12, Kamara missed last week and has not practiced yet this week. With just one chance to log a limited practice today, Kamara seems to be sitting this one out.
Through fifteen career games against the Bucs, Kamara has 11 touchdowns and 589 receiving yards, both highs against a singular team. He's dominated through the air, but the Bucs have mainly held his rushing in check over the years.
Kamara averages 3.8 yards per rush against the Bucs over the last nine seasons, which is average. The dual-threat running back has taken a massive step back since breaking his career rushing yards record in 2024 through just 14 games.
Alvin Kamara's lifetime domination of the Bucs may have ended this season
Kamara averages 3.6 yards per carry and 5.6 yards per reception this year, both career lows. He's been the crown jewel of the Saints' offense for nearly a decade, but it seems his time in the spotlight is coming to a close.
Tampa Bay will hold out hope the veteran doesn't play on Sunday, just in case the rivalry juices rejuvenate his play. The Bucs have been pitiful at limiting passing yards this season, but have kept receiving backs at bay. Tampa Bay is near the bottom in running back receiving yards allowed this season.
The Bucs defense kept Kamara in check during the Week 8 bout. Kamara gained 21 rushing yards on six attempts and just 24 receiving yards on two receptions. Despite his dip in production, Kamara is still the lead back. Backup Kendre Miller has struggled to produce much in his first three NFL seasons, and the Saints' other options are limited.
If Kamara is out on Sunday, expect a heavy passing attack from the Saints. With the season coming to a close and the veteran running back aging fast, the Bucs can breathe a sigh of relief because they may have played Kamara for the final time.
