Buccaneers just got one more reason to circle Lions game after Devin White signing

Former Buccaneers linebacker Devin White signed with the Lions, creating a revenge-game storyline when Tampa Bay visits Detroit in Week 11.

The Detroit Lions have signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro Devin White in a move intended to bolster their inside linebacker depth. 

White was an inconsistent player for the Buccaneers, and his stint in Tampa Bay was characterized by high highs and low lows. But at his best, he was a truly special player. 

He recorded 566 total tackles in Tampa Bay along with 23 sacks, six forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. 

The Bucs likely wouldn’t have won Super Bowl LV without his heroics, with White recording 38 tackles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries during the postseason run.

Now, White could be a thorn in Tampa Bay’s side as he finally gets his first shot at the Buccaneers since the two sides parted ways. 

Lions’ Devin White has a revenge game opportunity vs Buccaneers 

White had a productive season in 2025 for the Las Vegas Raiders, finishing No. 3 in the NFL in total tackles with a whopping 174, along with three sacks and two forced fumbles.

Still, despite his production, he had the same struggles that have hamstrung him throughout his NFL career. Pro Football Focus ranked White as the NFL's No. 82 linebacker. He finished near the bottom of the league in both pass coverage and run defense, and his 40.7 overall grade was the second-lowest of his career.

The Bucs will face the Lions in Week 11 on Nov. 22, with White suiting up against them for the first time. 

There will be some bad blood, especially after Bucs general manager Jason Licht said last offseason that he regretted drafting White with the No. 5 overall pick back in 2019. White and Tampa Bay had a messy split that included White demanding a trade entering his contract year and getting benched in his final year with the team. 

Despite stints in Philadelphia, Houston, and Las Vegas, White has somehow avoided crossing paths with Tampa Bay until now. 

The former Buccaneer will enter that Week 11 matchup with a huge chip on his shoulder, looking to prove Tampa Bay made the wrong decision. The Bucs need to be ready for a showdown with a fired-up Devin White looking to prove a point.
