The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are an hour away from kickoff against the Atlanta Falcons for a pivotal NFC South showdown.
The game holds massive playoff implications for both teams, making this Tampa Bay’s most important game of the season to date.
Fortunately, the Buccaneers just received some encouraging injury news at the perfect time. Starting right tackle Luke Goedeke, who was listed as questionable with a calf injury, is officially active and will play against Atlanta.
Buccaneers get key injury boost as Luke Goedeke is active vs. Falcons
If Goedeke had been unable to go, the Bucs would have trotted out Benjamin Chukwuma at right tackle for the second-straight week. The team is highly confident in the second-year backup, and Todd Bowles believes he’s a future starter in this league.
But while Chukwuma played well in relief of Goedeke, in a game this important, the team would still rather have the veteran who happens to be one of the best offensive tackles in football.
Not only does his presence provide a boost in protection for Baker Mayfield, but it also helps out in the running game. Tampa Bay has embraced a physical, smashmouth identity, and they want to run the football down opponent’s throats. Having Goedeke back to anchor the right side is key against the Falcons’ stout defensive front
With Goedeke active, the only Buccaneers starter ruled out is wide receiver Emeka Egbuka. Being without their top pass-catcher is still a significant blow, but it’s easier to overcome than being without a starting offensive lineman.

Tampa Bay’s other inactives are all reserves: guard Luke Haggard, guard Billy Schrauth, defensive lineman DeMonte Capehart and cornerback Ayden Garnes.
On the other sideline, the Falcons will be without running back Brian Robinson Jr., linebacker Divine Deablo, and cornerback Billy Bowman Jr.
The Falcons being without Deablo could potentially give Tampa Bay a key advantage. The Falcons will be starting two rookies at linebacker in Kendal Daniels and Harold Perkins Jr. Perhaps there will be an opportunity to pick on these rookies in the passing game.
Neither team has a perfectly clean injury sheets, but this is about as healthy as two teams can hope to be entering Week 8. There’s no excuses on either side, and we’ll truly find out who is the better team as the Buccaneers and Falcons battle it out for positioning in the NFC South race.
