There are a lot of players for Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be excited about next season. Baker Mayfield has a new offensive coordinator and an even bigger chip on his shoulder. Alex Anzalone is a proven starter at the inside linebacker position. Rookie Rueben Bain Jr. is an absolute baller. Ted Hurst could be the next hidden gem at wide receiver. Bucky Irving will be healthy again in the backfield, and Kenny Gainwell could be his ideal complement in the passing game.
But no player has more steam coming out of the engine of his hype train than second year wide receiver Emeka Egbuka. Although there were some bizarre complaints about his play in the second half of the season, Egbuka was put in a no win situation with both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin Jr. injured while half of the Bake's offensive line was also out of commission.
The production and flashes on film were both promising for Egbuka, and more is expected of the Ohio State grad in his second campaign in the NFL with Mike Evans now set to catch passes from Brock Purdy in the lesser Bay Area of the United States.
Emeka Egbuka gets compared to 2-time Super Bowl winner
New Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is clearly excited to start working with Emeka Egbuka, and he said something quite interesting about the Bucs No. 2. Per Joe Bucs Fan, Robinson said that while he hopes to get Egbuka set in one place as a receiver next season - presumably as the "Z" - he won't pigeonhole him into one position and compared his versatility and feel for the game to that of Seattle Seahawks receiver Cooper Kupp.
Now that's a very interesting and flattering comparison for Buccaneers fans to see. Kupp is one of the best wide receivers in the league of the last several years, having nearly broken Calvin Johnson's receiving yards record in a monster season with Matthew Stafford at the helm. And not only did he win one Super Bowl as a big star for Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams, but he also won another one last season as the understated, clutch veteran WR2 behind Jaxon Smith-Njgiba for Seattle Seahawks gunslinger Sam Darnold.
So if Egbuka understands the game like Cooper Kupp and can move around the formation in multiple wide receiver slots, then he could put up monster numbers with Baker Mayfield slinging him the rock in 2026 and beyond.
