Finally, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got back to winning ways last Sunday, and while they were far from convincing, they were able to do what it took to squeak past a potentially dangerous Jacoby Brissett and his struggling Arizona Cardinals. The win came after a string of defeats to Super Bowl contenders in the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and Los Angeles Rams, causing the Bucs stock to correspondingly fall.
But the Buccaneers should be on the rise with the easiest strength of schedule in the NFC going forward. The thing is, those games may not be as easy on the field as they are on paper, because the reason these games are easier is that the Bucs will be facing their NFC South rivals. Aside from the Carolina Panthers, who are now hot on their heels in the NFC Playoff Picture after a shock shootout win over the very same Rams that embarrassed the Bucs on national television, the rest of the pack are struggling mightily in 2025.
The first of those opponents in the gauntlet of NFC South matchups coming up will be the New Orleans Saints this Sunday afternoon. New Orleans beat the Panthers before the bye, but since, they have suffered back to back losses to the Miami Dolphins and the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints have the least talented squad in the NFC South with the worst quarterback position,
So with the Bucs getting key players back from injury, including star running back Bucky Irving last weekend in the win over the Arizona Cardinals, the Saints are a great matchup for the Bucs to make a real statement. And with Baker Mayfield falling in many quarterback rankings and MVP rankings harder than the Bucs are falling in NFL wide team power rankings, the Bucs star quarterback, in particular, has a lot of reasons to be itching to dominate a bad Saints team.
Nothing less than a win is acceptable or expected from this Bucs fan base. And even with Mike Evans set to miss one more week as he recovers from a broken collarbone, everything is there for the Buccaneers to get a second straight W.
