The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive line was supposed to be a real source of strength for this team, but the Bucs have found it to be a weak point that other teams are exploiting. Tampa had trouble keeping the Green Bay Packers off Jalon Daniels, and as much as Baker Mayfield created his own misfortune by running into sacks and holding the ball too long, Daniels getting hit seven times and sacked three times by the Packers defense last weekend drove home how pourous this Bucs offensive line suddenly is.
Worst of all, the Buccaneers offensive line was supposed to get back on track against the Packers pass rush, which had previously struggled to get to quarterbacks. Now, though, the Buccaneers line is under more pressure than ever, and they have to get things right this week agains the Dallas Cowboys, otherwise it could very easily be an 0-5 start for Todd Bowles.
The Dallas Cowboys are 2-2 and have one of the worst defenses in the NFL, particularly their pass defense. And if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive line can keep Jalon Daniels' jersey clean, then even the undrafted rookie should have no trouble picking apart a leaky Dallas defense that is averaging a league worst 8.0 yards per pass attempt allowed.
Cowboys' pass rush is just as bad as the Buccaneers'
This season, the Cowboys do not have a single player with more than one sack, and the only edge rusher who has even been getting to the quarterback with any sacks this season is Rashan Gary. Dallas only has one player with five hurries on the quarterback and another with three, which would be Gary.
The Cowboys' pass rush is so weak that it might be even worse than the Buccaneers' lousy group, especially when it comes to finishing plays off statistically. So if the Bucs can't keep Jalon Daniels out of trouble and give him a clean pocket against this Dallas Cowboys defense, then the troubles of the line are going to be a full blown crisis mode.
Daniels needs time back there to find his receivers for explosive plays against the Cowboys defense, which has become infamous for repeated blown coverages this season. The Buccaneers are having trouble putting points on the board with no time for their quarterbacks to throw, and that all has to change this Thursday if they're going to keep pace with an explosive Dallas offense.
