The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Rueben Bain Jr. with the No. 15 overall pick in last week’s NFL Draft, and they’re already going above and beyond to make him feel at home in Tampa Bay.

Shortly after arriving, Bain and his family were treated to brunch with the Buccaneers’ defensive unit, along with All-Pro tackle Tristan Wirfs. The gathering served as an introduction to his new teammates, and an opportunity to begin building chemistry before stepping onto the field.

Bucs’ rookie tradition highlights strong locker room culture

Just last year, Buccaneers players organized a similar outing for first-round pick Emeka Egbuka and his family, signaling the start of what’s becoming a meaningful team tradition in Tampa Bay.

It’s a simple but effective way for veterans to welcome the incoming first-round pick, helping them get comfortable not only with their teammates, but also with their new city. For a young player adjusting to the NFL, that kind of support goes a long way.

Tampa Bay is counting on the former Miami standout to help spark a defensive turnaround. The Buccaneers haven’t had a player record double-digit sacks in four seasons, and getting after opposing quarterbacks has been a major weakness for the defense. If Bain is who the front office thinks he is, he could be the player to finally provide the pass rush presence the team has been searching for.

But before the pressure ramps up, the Buccaneers are making sure their newest cornerstone feels welcomed. Bain was drafted to a great place, stepping into a locker room that values family and connection just as much as on-field production.
