Football is finally back, and with the arrival of Week 1 comes the beginning of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quest for a Super Bowl.
Not many would have thought that would be the position the Bucs would be in three years after the Tom Brady era ended. In rapid succession, the team went from seemingly hopeless to kicking off the 2025 season looking to win a fifth straight NFC South title.
What a way to celebrate the franchise's 50th anniversary.
Tampa Bay's journey to win the division begins against a rival, and in a place where things didn't go so well last time around.
The Bucs are in Atlanta, opening the season in a place where one of the most embarrassing losses of the season took place last year. Tampa Bay squandered away a road victory on Thursday night on two boneheaded plays that helped the Falcons win.
Ultimately, the walk-off loss in overtime didn't keep the Bucs from winning the NFC South, but it's a reminder that this team often is its own worst enemy. The good news is the Bucs are 2-0 in season openers under Baker Mayfield, and starting hot is going to be what the team needs if it wants to truly take the step forward everyone thinks it might.
