For the first time in seven months, Tampa Bay Buccaneers football is back in our lives. It’s been a long wait, but not an uneventful one.

Tampa Bay spent big in free agency, both bringing back key pieces like Chris Godwin and splurging to sign Haason Reddick to try and fix a mediocre pass rush. Perhaps the most exciting move the Bucs made was using the No. 19 overall pick on Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, which loads up an already stacked offense even more.

Only one of those guys will likely see serious time in Saturday’s preseason opener for Tampa Bay. Godwin might not be healthy for the start of the regular season as he continues to rehab his dislocated ankle and Reddick is a vet who won’t need to play.

Egbuka has been appointment viewing so far in training camp. All indications are that the Bucs landed a potential Rookie of the Year candidate and Saturday will give us our first true look at him since being drafted.

We will also get a look at Kyle Trask in the role of starting quarterback, which is notable for a few reasons. He was brought back in free agency thanks to a contractual loophole, but the arrival of Teddy Bridgewater puts a new type of pressure on him.

Trask is still QB2 on the depth chart, but it’s not unfair to think that his days might be numbered. Bridgewater was brought in to cover for injuries to Baker Mayfield and Michael Pratt, but if Trask doesn’t capitalize with the time he’s being given in the preseason, it might be the end of the road for him after all.
