Chiefs suddenly in position to steal Kenyon Sadiq from Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have reported interest in Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq, but he might be off the board long before they get the chance to draft him.

Even though the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' biggest 2026 NFL Draft needs lie on the defensive side of the ball in both the front seven and now even at the cornerback position, tight end Kenyon Sadiq remains a highly appealing draft target with the 15th overall pick, even after the team decided to hold onto current starting tight end Cade Otton.

Sadiq may not end up being available for Zac Robinson and the Buccaneers to pluck away with the 15th overall pick as their new big target for Baker Mayfield following the departure of Mike Evans to the NFC West's San Francisco 49ers.

That's because there are suitors higher in the draft who are keen on Sadiq, too. According to his latest information, Sports Illustrated reporter Albert Breer states that Sadiq is among the many talented players the Kansas City Chiefs are considering with the ninth overall pick in the draft. Ruben Bain Jr., Spencer Fano, Mansoor Delane, Carnell Tate, and Jordan Tyson are a handful of other potential Buccaneers targets on the Chiefs short list, too.

Could Chiefs steal Kenyon Sadiq from Buccaneers as the heir to Travis Kelce?

But the Chiefs purported interest in Kenyon Sadiq in the top 10 picks of the draft is by far the more interesting scenario, because few would have seen them as being suitors in the top 10. When you think about it, though, Sadiq makes a lot of sense. He is a big target and a superb athlete who plays amazing in space, can make plays with the ball in his hands, and can fit the Chiefs offense perfectly.

With Travis Kelce in decline, the Kansas City Chiefs need a new star tight end for Patrick Mahomes to work as a safety valve over the middle, and they would prefer to have a special athlete of the Kelce ilk who can be a playmaker and not just a chain mover.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have to fully go for the defensive side of the ball if the Chiefs go Sadiq at No. 9, because while players like Jordan Tyson and even Carnell Tate, if somehow available, could make sense at the wide receiver position, Sadiq was the only real game wrecker Zac Robinson seems to want tactically on offense for the Buccaneers to justify not going defense at No. 15.

Right now, the Bucs policy on draft day looks like going for the best available prospect on Jason Licht's big board, and if the Chiefs go for Sadiq, it could make it easier for the Bucs to feel good about going defense.
