There's been a lot of new drama emerging in the Baker Mayfield/C.J. Gardner-Johnson feud so let's recap it. The beef was reignited on Monday Night Football when, faced with a 4th-and-10 on their own side of the field with no other choice but to go for it, Mayfield scrambled 15 yards for a first down and did so against Gardner-Johnson.
Before that, when CJGJ was with the Detroit Lions in 2023, he said the Bucs wide receivers could be great if they had a better quarterback. Mayfield clapped back telling the then-Lions defensive back to study more film. Clearly these two don't like each other for that exchange alone.
Well, after Baker's Bucs won the game against CJ's Texans in Week 2, Mayfield made sure to twist the knife. He threw shade at Gardner-Johnson in his press conference, calling him "My buddy" with an eye roll and then continued dunking on the Texans defensive back on Instagram.
To the surprise of no one, C.J. Gardner-Johnson has responded to Mayfield, commenting on the Instagram post with "Boy this cute but still ringless". While it hurts to admit, Gardner-Johnson can say "Scoreboard" to Mayfield when it comes to championships considering he won a Super Bowl with the Eagles last year and Mayfield has yet to accomplish that feat sadly.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson fires back at Baker Mayfield and hits where it hurts
It's really unfortunate that these two reside in different conferences because we need more Mayfield/Gardner-Johnson match-ups. With the Bucs in the NFC South and the Texans in the AFC South, however, the best we can hope for this year is a Bucs/Texans Super Bowl match-up, which probably isn't likely given Houston's 0-2 start.
Maybe the Texans will grow tired of Gardner-Johnson's antics like the Saints and Eagles have and trade him to a team on the Bucs' schedule more frequently because we need more of these two ASAP.
