Drew Brees had quite possibly the dumbest take about the Buccaneers in Week 3

What an insane and totally unbiased thing to say...

There are few men in the history of the NFL who have been held in lower regard by Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans than former New Orleans Saints megastar Drew Brees, as he spent nearly two decades of a soon-to-be Hall of Fame career slicing and dicing both good and bad Bucs teams alike in the air.

Brees' time as an analyst hasn't been covered in the same level of glory. With the Bucs having pulled out two miraculous late wins to move to 2-0 and Brees' Saints starting off 0-2 in the Kellen Moore era, No. 9 said some truly outrageous things as he tried to tear down his old foe.

Brees said that the Saints could make a run in what he believes is a wide-open NFC South, arguing that the only difference between New Orleans and Tampa Bay heading into Week 3 was the fact that Tampa found a way to make plays at the end of games that New Orleans did not do. You know, what good teams do!

Immediately after Brees made that statement, the Bucs picked up a furious 29-27 comeback win against the New York Jets, all while the Saints got embarrassed in a 44-13 road defeat against the Seattle Seahawks that saw them surrender 38 points in the first half.

Drew Brees faceplants after Saints hype following Bucs' Week 3 win

While the Bucs are 3-0, no one is going to argue this is a perfect team. The offensive line is falling apart, the pass rush is still relatively toothless now that Calijah Kancey is done for the year, and Bowles' defense still gives up scores in big moments. The Saints, however, are a tire fire.

Such a year was to be expected from a new head coach trying to dig out from salary cap hell after years of bad investments, and Brees is always going to support his old team, but that doesn't mean that the two rival squads should even be mentioned in the same sentence as far as 2025 goes.

With the Atlanta Falcons looking completely out of whack against the Carolina Panthers, and Carolina themselves looking like a team that is unlikely to make a ton of noise if Bryce Young continues to stink it up, the Bucs should brace for another year of playoff expectations while the Saints try their hardest not to end up with one of the worst records in the league.
