We didn't see this coming.

Once upon a time, Devin White was a first-round pick who would go on to help the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win a Super Bowl. The next thing you know, general manager Jason Licht is flat-out insulting White with public comments after an ugly falling out.

Regardless of how that relationship ended, though, and where it currently stands in Licht's eyes, White appears to finally be landing on his feet again. After short and failed stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans, White signed with the Las Vegas Raiders back in March, and he appears to be taking full advantage.

Throughout training camp, White has been active in practices. He's flown all over the field like Bucs fans were used to seeing early in his career and has even come up with several big plays such as a multi-interception day just a few weeks ago.

By most accounts, it looks as though White is not only going to make the roster, but that he will end up starting for that Patrick Graham-led defensive unit. It is a defense that has now added six presumable starters over the offseason, thanks to free agency, and White is one of them.

Buccaneers fans might feel one way or the other about the way White ended up falling off and leaving Tampa Bay, but one thing seems to be certain: White has no ill will towards the Buccaneers, even after hearing what Licht had to say about the possibility of going back in time and not drafting him.

It is always a positive when you see a player go from falling out with one team to then using his humbling experience for motivation. White has had a rough couple of years and worked up quite the negative reputation for himself, especially among Bucs fans.

But, to see him playing well with the Raiders isn't something we're here to minimize. Still only 27 years old, White could have plenty of football left in him. And, we're not too proud to admit that maybe, just maybe, the young-at-heart Pete Carroll could have been just what he needed to turn his career back around.
