A rather strange situation is unfolding involving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and running back Rachaad White. Most of the NFL's attention was turned toward Indianapolis and the start of the NFL Combine this week, which included Todd Bowles and Jason Licht who were on-hand to speak with the media and make opening remarks ahead of drills and interviews with prospects later in the week.
Something that didn't come up was an apparent situation with White, and the reason for that is likely due to the fact that it has seemingly come out of absolutely nowhere.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport passed along a statement from White's legal team that stated the FBI and other law enforcement agencies were investigating an extortion plot. No further details were made available in the initial report, but it's likely that something is about to come out soon, and we will all know more about what's going on.

If the news comes as a bit of a surprise, or like you're being dropped into the middle of a movie where you missed the first act, you're not alone. There has been zero indication that anything has been up with White, which makes this report even more surprising than it already would have been.
The most we've heard about White this offseason was how he might be a potential cut candidate, even though that's a totally bizarre idea. White might have taken a backseat to the Bucky Irving hype that built throughout the season, but he was still an important piece of the offense and remains so heading into next year.
Whatever is happening with the FBI investigation has been kept under wraps, and it's unclear how long it's been going on. The whole thing is a bit jarring since it's been a quiet offseason for the Bucs outside of the scandalous drama with how Liam Coen exited as offensive coordinator, but this is a far more serious matter. While not much information has been ade public yet, it probably won't be long before we learn more details about what's happening.
