Anyone thinking Tuesday's NFL Trade Deadline was going to be quiet was in for a rude awakening, as chaos consumed the day.
In total, there were eight trades made on Tuesday, which is tied for the second most on any deadline day going back to 1990. While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't end up getting in on the action -- which was a good thing -- one of the team's former players was.
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka was traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Chicago Bears, with a sixth-round pick being the price paid. The Bears got a seventh-rounder back, along with Tryon-Shoyinka, which lets you know exactly how well his time with the Browns went.
He signed with Cleveland back in March after the Bucs declined to re-sign him following the expiration of his rookie contract. There was no fifth year option picked up, which makes it one of the rare draft misses for Jason Licht.

Tryon-Shoyinka flamed out hard in Cleveland, something Bucs fans saw coming from miles away. Just how badly he played, though, was a bit of a surprise. During his four years in Tampa Bay, JTS managed to muster up 15 sacks in 66 games, and had a decent enough time in the playoffs back in 2023.
A lot of that is box score watching, though, as his overall impact on the defense was less than stellar. Drafted in the first-round back in 2021, he was supposed to develop into a successor to Shaq Barrett but ended up falling well short of that.
He was the start of Tampa Bay's seeming endless quest to find consistent high-level pass rush help, something that continues to this day. Once he went to Cleveland, things went from 'meh' to unplayable in a hurry.
Tryon-Shoyinka has played just 31 snaps all season for the Browns, and unsurprisingly has zero sacks and zero tackles for loss. That's not what you're looking for out of a pass rusher and making matters worse is how good Cleveland's defense has been all season.
Newly acquired Bears pass rusher, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka’s 2025 stats: 0 sacks, 0 INTs, 0 FFs, 0 FRs, 9 tackles. Dynamic trade.

While the Browns are Very Bad, the defense has at least managed to play as a top unit in the league. That's no thanks to Tryon-Shoyinka, who failed to use that as a platform to shine. Now he's hoping the third time is the charm as part of Dennis Allen's defense in Chicago -- a team that just gave up over 40 points to the Joe Flacco-led Bengals.
Maybe this time things will finally work out, but Tryon-Shoyinka joining his third team in less than a year suggests the Bucs were right to let him walk when they did.
