The football world was recently rocked by the tragic passing of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin. Martin played seven years in the league, spending time with two teams, but he will always be remembered as a Buccaneer. That’s the team he was drafted by, and who he played his first six seasons with.

Recently, one of his former Buccaneers teammates took time to honor him while on air. Gerald McCoy, who’s one of the analyst for NFL GameDay, made sure to speak on Martin, as well as other teammates he lost. Mentioning each by name — Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, Vincent Jackson, Geno Hayes, Mike Williams, and Doug Martin — McCoy remembered them as brothers.

The former player also encouraged everyone to remember that players are human just like everyone else.

McCoy sent a similar message on social media when news of Martin’s passing first came out, emphasizing how tough it is to lose five teammates. He also encouraged everyone to check on their loved ones then.

Like McCoy in 2010, Martin was a first-round pick for the Buccaneers in 2012. He quickly emerged as a standout running back for the team, making the Pro Bowl in 2012 and 2015, and being named First-Team All-Pro in 2015. He was teammates with McCoy for his entire tenure in Tampa Bay, and the two were also Pro Bowl teammates the two years Martin made the Pro Bowl.

In his six years with the Buccaneers, Martin rushed for 4,633 yards and 26 touchdowns, while also catching 130 passes for 1,091 yards and two additional touchdowns. After his time in Tampa Bay, Martin spent one season with the Raiders, where he rushed for 723 yards and four touchdowns, while also catching 18 passes for 116 yards.
