The Glazers' latest Baker Mayfield comments are music to Buccaneers fans' ears

It sounds like Buccaneers ownership feels the same way as the fan base about Baker Mayfield.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are preparing for a busy NFL Draft this year, as they have several major positions of need on the defensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, with a loaded wide receiver and offensive line class, Jason Licht and the Bucs could go best available with the No. 15 overall pick and beef up the quality around franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield further.

While there are a number of options the Buccaneers can go in on draft day, there is only one option for Tampa Bay when it comes to their signal caller. After the draft, the next priority for the Buccaneers this offseason that remains will be to lock up Mayfield to a long term contract extension, because the Bucs are clearly sold on Mayfield being the guy.

Echoing that sentiment is none other than one of the team's co owners, Joel Glazer. He all but confirmed that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to be rewarding Baker Mayfield with a new contract extension that pays him top quarterback money, and he also affirmed both the Bucs organiztion loving Mayfield and them being ready to spend whatever it takes to keep him.

Joel Glazer wants Buccaneers to sign Baker Mayfield to a contract extension

Glazer said, via Pewter Report, "Everybody loves him. If the QB's making top money, then your team is probably doing well and the QB's performing well. That doesn't hurt at all to write that check, it's something that all the teams do when you have good QBs."

The vast majority of Buccaneers fans reading that quote from Joel Glazer have to be nodding their heads wholeheartedly. Again, the Bucs fan base has long fallen in love with Mayfield's moxie, and although they would like to see some more results from both him and the team as a whole, there is very little blame attached to Mayfield for the performances of the team and the collapse.

If anything, the Bucs want to see their franchise quarterback backed. That means more than just the Glazers compensating him financially, but the Bucs want to see better coaching after Josh Grizzard's poor 2025 as offensive coordinator, as well as the woes of head coach Todd Bowles - Liam Coen shining up north for the Jacksonville Jaguars has not aided that perception either.

Perhaps adding another weapon in the draft like a Kenyon Sadiq or even a wideout would help (imagine Carnell Tate and Emeka Egbuka together), but the big thing is signing that contract and making sure he stays in the Bay.
