It has certainly been a wild 24 hours for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Shoot, it's been a wild week. Let's just call a spade a spade.
This week has been off the rails for the Bucs organization. At one point just a couple of days ago, it appeared as though offensive coordinator Liam Coen agreed to a massive new contract to not only keep him with the team, but make him the highest-paid offensive coordinator in football.
Then, Thursday afternoon hit and the chaos ensued. Reports started flying around that Coen did not, in fact, accept the Buccaneers' new deal. Instead, those reports suggested he was still pursuing the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching job.
Within minutes of those initial reports, momentum continued to pick up steam and, by Thursday night, the deal was announced between Coen and Jacksonville. He would be the next head coach of the Jaguars.
More Bucs news:
It became the story of the NFL as soon as the news broke. Among many other coaching storylines this week, the Bucs and Jaguars had now taken center stage. There were a lot of layers to this, as well.
While everyone was jumping to their own conclusions, Coen was, in fact, dealing with his own family medical situation during the height of this coaching saga.
Liam Coen's reason for avoiding the Buccaneers tells more of the story
The morning after Coen agreed to become the Jaguars' next head coach, his wife Ashley took to social media and explained exactly what happened this week.
""I hate that I even have to say this, but when people are negative about my kids, I will not be silent. Our son is sick, we were at the hospital yesterday seeing a specialist for his autoimmune disease. Please don’t spread misinformation and assume because you heard one side.""Ashley Coen, wife of Liam
Although it hurts to see Coen leave after fans originally thought he was going to stick around, this explanation brings a whole new light to the situation.
Now, with that said, the situation with his son didn't stop him from flying to Jacksonville while the Buccaneers were not aware.
He deserved to focus on his wife and son. That much is true. However, what was also happening behind the scenes is still something worth questioning.
This entire situation is just tough, all around. It's one that's best left alone, to be quite frank. What's done is done, and both sides have no choice but to move on.
