Despite their 2-0 start to begin the season, there are reasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be concerned going into their game against the New York Jets this Sunday.
We've seen the team start hot before and fall into a pit of misery before. In fact, it's happened each of the last two years, with the Bucs somehow surviving a 1-6 slump and going 0-4 in the middle of the season.
Neither of those comas the team slipped into kept them out long enough to lose their grip on the NFC South crown, which still rests upon their head for the fourth straight season. It's not something the Bucs should take for granted, though, and this Sunday's game against the Jets is a perfect representation of that.
1. Classic trap-game
The Buccaneers have a date with the undefeated reigning Super Bowl Champion Eagles in Week 4. It's hard not to look ahead to their showdown with Philadelphia, especially when your Week 3 opponent is the winless New York Jets, a team that has been bad for forever. Tampa Bay needs to be careful not to take the Jets lightly. New York nearly beat Pittsburgh in their home opener, and looked good on offense.
2. Tyrod Taylor is dangerous at QB
The Jets will be without their starter Justin Fields, and are instead rolling with backup Tyrod Taylor. The veteran was once a Pro Bowler, and is dangerous at QB. The second-best sixth-round QB of all time, Taylor has a career record of 28-28-1, winning exactly 50% of his games. However, he's 2-0 against Tampa Bay in his career.
Since going to New York, Taylor has a passer rating of 124.4 and a completion percentage of 72.7%. While he's only thrown for 175 yards, mostly coming in garbage during losses, he has thrown four touchdown passes and has not turned over the ball as a Jet. Hopefully that will change on Sunday.
3. The Jets are in desperation mode
The Jets, starting 0-2, will be desperately looking for a win to save their season. Only one 0-3 team has made the playoffs, and the Jets will be hoping to avoid the dreaded record that signals a losing season.
That means Aaron Glenn will be pulling out all the stops on Sunday. Whatever Glenn has up his sleeve, the Buccaneers should expect to see it. Whether it means trick plays or new formations, Tampa Bay needs to beware of the Jets pulling anything crazy against them on Sunday.
