Mike Evans has a chance to make history in 2025 as the first player to ever record 12 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.
His start to the season has been filled with difficult matchups against some of the league’s elite cornerbacks, including Derek Stingley in Week 2 and Sauce Gardner in Week 3.
Despite the Buccaneers entering this weekend 2-0, Evans went the first two weeks of the season without a touchdown catch. He came close against the Texans on Monday Night Football, but had a touchdown called back due to offensive pass interference.
But against the Jets, Evans finally notched his score of the season. Down 6-3 in the second quarter, Evans ran a quick slant in the red zone and caught a 5-yard touchdown pass to give the Buccaneers their first lead of the game.
Evans exited the game in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury, finishing with four catches for 33 yards and a touchdown. Evans currently sits at 10 catches with 107 yards and a touchdown through three weeks, with his injury status up in the air.
He needs 893 yards over the next 14 games to continue his streak, averaging about 64 yards per game.
However, it looks like Evans may miss some time if the hamstring injury is as significant as it looked. Evans was visibly frustrated leaving the field, knocking over a water cooler and throwing his helmet off in the tunnel.
The injury comes at the worst possible time for the Buccaneers — just as key players like Tristan Wirfs and Chris Godwin have a real chance to return in Week 4.
But as those two ramp up for a comeback, the Bucs lost Mike Evans with the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles on deck. Evans missed three games with a similar hamstring injury last season before responding with one of the best stretches of his career to keep his 1,000-yard streak alive.
If he misses time again, he’ll have his work cut out for him to stay on pace to break Jerry Rice’s record in 2025.
