The 2026 NFL schedule was officially released on Thursday, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have plenty of intriguing games on the docket.

But there is one game in particular that Bucs fans are circling on their calendars, and the team’s quarterback is doing the same thing.

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers to face Cleveland Browns for home-opener

After heading to Cincinnati to face the Bengals in Week 1, the Buccaneers will return home to host the Cleveland Browns for their home-opener in Week 2. It’s by far the most anticipated game on Tampa Bay’s 2026 schedule.

It will be Baker Mayfield’s first time playing against the Browns as a Buccaneer. It’s well documented that the Browns gave up on Mayfield following the 2021 season, even after he led them to their first playoff win in 26 years just a year prior.

Cleveland is still looking for a solution to their quarterback dilemma, while Mayfield has developed into one of the league’s best at the position — so it’s safe to say he got the last laugh.

Since 2023, the Browns have gone a combined 19-32 while Mayfield has led the Bucs to a 27-24 record

The Browns starting quarterback is likely to be Deshaun Watson, the same quarterback that the Browns chose over Mayfield.

It’s the ultimate chance to get revenge, and for Mayfield to make a statement to show the Browns what they’re missing. He’s always been known to play his best football with a chip on his shoulder, and this might just be the most personal game of his career.
