A perfect trade to fix the defense just fell right into the Buccaneers' lap

For the most part, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a rather successful offseason. The team brought back Chris Godwin, signed Haason Reddick to try to fix the pass rush, and even finally found a perfect replacement for Jake Camarda in Riley Dixon.

The work isn't finished, though, and the moves the Bucs might make aren't limited to what the team could do in the draft.

Cornerback remains a glaring hole on the roster, and it's an area that Tampa Bay hasn't managed to yet properly address. That could change next week, but it might not be a prospect coming into do the job.

Ahead of the NFL Draft next week, Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey appears to have thrown his name into the ring as a potential trade candidate for teams looking to upgrade the cornerback position.

It just so happens one of those teams is the Buccaneers, which means Jason Licht might be wise to get on the phone and see if he can't pull off a deal with Miami that lands Tampa Bay a key piece it has been searching for.

Jalen Ramsey is exactly who the Buccaneers have been searching for at cornerback

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins are expected to trade Ramsey -- or at least try to -- in the near future. Whether that happens before the draft is yet to be seen, but logic suggests that would be the best window for the Miami to get the best value back.

Tampa Bay trading for Ramsey is a good plan, but it's hardly a perfect one. The Bucs have managed to navigate choppy financial waters over the last few years but aren't totally out of the woods yet. Money is a primary issue in a deal getting done, as Ramsey is owed $25 million guaranteed next season, which is a steep price.

It's a risk that might be worth it, though.

Ramsey has had his share of struggles over the last few seasons but he remains one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Even with his prime years skimmed off the top, Ramsey is an instant CB1 option for the Bucs and upgrades the position in ways the team has been hoping to do for awhile now.

Zyon McCollum has settled into the top cornerback role but would easily take a sidekick role if Ramsey came to town. Assuming he isn't let go to make room on the books, Jamel Dean being a CB3 in the room is a pretty great spot to be in, especially since he'll be motivated to have a great year given his contract situation heading into next offseason.

It's hard not to see this all as a pipe dream, though, given what it would take to get the deal done. Not only is there the financial element but the Bucs would need to give up draft capital, something the team has been hesitant to do in the past.

Trading for Ramsey is a big swing that a Super Bowl contending team would make, which is why it should at least be talked about in Tampa Bay. Whether or not that conversation actually goes anywhere is what we'll all have to find out in the coming weeks.
