Among the many things the Tampa Bay Buccaneers season hinges on, the success of Baker Mayfield is paramount.

It was a signing that was trolled by every Twitter comedian with the same exact joke, but Mayfield is already having a positive impact on the Bucs in his short time with the team. He's joining a team that is entering this upcoming season with a massive chip on its shoulder, and Baker is carrying that flag.

Whether he's able to plant it in the hearts of haters is the biggest quesiton the Bucs need answered.

We're still a few months away from the season starting, so it's impossible to gauge whether he'll deliver. What we've seen so far from him, though, seems to indicate he's a different quarterback than the one who flamed out in Cleveland and Carolina over the last few seasons.

Baker Mayfield dropped a quote that is going to fire up Buccaneers fans

After getting jettisoned from Carolina, Baker landed on the other coast with the Los Angeles Rams. He told the New York Post that his time there flipped a switch that the Buccaneers are going to benefit from.

“It was the first time I had fun playing football in a few years," Mayfield said. "It brought that feeling of having that success and really remembering what it was all about, Kind of hit the reset button for me."

That's not the classic rah-rah quote that will make fans want to run through walls, rather it's a bit more subtle with equal impact. Hearing that Baker is looking at this season different than he has the last few seasons shows growth, something he's been knocked as not having much of in his career to this point.

If fans are buying more Baker stock, imagine what affect that quote has on the locker room.

One thing that seems to be universally agreed upon is that the Bucs need a change of culture. Last season was so bad that it put the team in danger of slipping back into the darkness of the last decade, but Baker can help drag them out of the Sarlacc Pit before they fall too far.

Folks continue to sleep on the Bucs, and by extension Baker. Nothing we've seen in camp thus far suggests the team is going to lumber through the year simply going through the motions. That Baker quote is one we might be circling back to in November as the starting point of what turns out to be a success bounce back season for all involved.
