3 winners (and 2 losers) for Buccaneers in preseason loss to Steelers
Winner: John Wolford
While the focus was on the starting quarterback competition between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask, John Wolford made an impressive start to the preseason.
Wolford completed 10 of 17 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown with a passer rating of 97.9. The Bucs probably won't keep more than two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, but they will hope to keep Wolford on the practice squad.
He finished the game with a nice touchdown pass to tight end Payne Durham. A solid preseason debut for Wolford.
Loser: Cody Mauch
More offensive line concerns for the Bucs in this game. Second-round rookie Cody Mauch didn't have a great game.
"He let up two pressures, including one sack, and didn't fare well as a run blocker after the initial review of the game," writes Ben Cooper of Pro Football Focus.
Mauch is a talented player and will learn from the game, but it wasn't a great preseason debut for the rookie, who is expected to start at right guard this season.
It was a poor evening for the offensive line. Kyle Trask was sacked three times and John Wolford once. This is something to watch entering the Buccaneers' final two preseason games against the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens.
