Buccaneers vs. Colts Key Players to Watch
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Baker Mayfield: The veteran quarterback completed 64.4% of his passes for 246 yards, a touchdown, and an interception against the San Francisco 49ers last week. San Francisco’s defense snapped Mayfield’s three-game streak with at least two TD passes thrown. Mayfield has held his own this season as Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback.
The former No. 1 overall pick is completing 64.6% of his passes for 2,389 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. For a guy who bounced around last year between the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams, Mayfield might’ve found a home with the Bucs.
Indianapolis Colts
Jonathan Taylor: Taylor has a tough matchup on Sunday against Tampa Bay’s defense, which only allows 90 rushing yards per game this season. However, that will not stop first-year head coach Shane Steichen from dialing up the rushing attempts for Taylor.
Since Week 7, Taylor has been successful on the ground, rushing for 286 yards and two TDs on 71 carries. The veteran running back is averaging 71.5 yards on 17.8 carries per game in his last four contests. The Colts must establish the run early with Taylor and Zack Moss to slow down Tampa Bay’s defensive line.
Buccaneers vs. Colts Prediction and Pick
For the Buccaneers to pull off the upset on the road, they must hold the Colts under 20 points, which hasn’t been an easy challenge for opponents this season. Indianapolis has the ninth-best scoring offense (24.2 ppg) in the NFL and put up at least 20 points in nine out of 10 games.
The Buccaneers’ scoring defense has struggled over their last five games, giving up 22.4 points per game. However, with their run defense playing at a top-five level, Tampa Bay should be able to keep the game close.
Sunday’s game will be decided by which quarterback won’t make that huge mistake. Mayfield has thrown an interception in back-to-back games. But Gardner Minshew II hasn’t played great over the last five games, tossing six interceptions. I’ll take Tampa Bay on the moneyline as they stay perfect ATS on the road.
