6 players Bucs should add to practice squad after finalizing 53 man roster

Now that the 53 man roster is set, the Bucs can pad the practice squad with some pretty decent talent.

John Wolford, QB

There was a moment during training camp when it looked like the Bucs might carry three quarterbacks into the season, but that changed for a number of reasons. Perhaps the biggest reason was Wolford suffered a terrifying injury against the New York Jets back in Week 2 of the preseason and needed to be carted off the field.

Wolford eventually returned to the Bucs a few days later, but he didn't practice again or play in the preseason finale against Baltimore due to the injury. Getting hurt wasn't the only thing that worked against Wolford, as the sheer depth of talent the Bucs had forced the team to make tough decisions. Wolford was ultimately a victim of too many needs at deeper positions, but that doesn't mean his time in Tampa Bay is over.

One of the reasons Wolford was brought in was to make the quarterback room wiser. He spent the bulk of his career with Sean McVay and the Rams and was part of a quarterback room with Matthew Stafford that won a Super Bowl in 2021. Both Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask have things they can learn from Wolford and he's a valuable guy to have in the room each week helping with game prep.

The Bucs brought him in for a reason and it's one that likely will land him a spot on the practice squad assuming he doesn't get scooped up by another team.
