It took almost no time at all for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' rookie class to start making an impact.
The Bucs opened up their preseason in Cincinnati on Saturday night, and running back Bucky Irving was an early standout star. He was the focal point of Tampa Bay's attack right away, with Liam Coen filtering the offense through him on the first few drives of the game.
It wasn't just Irving who shined.
First round pick Graham Barton helped clear the way for Irving's first touchdown, which doubled as the Bucs' first trip to the endzone of the season. Not only did he lead the way, but Barton threw a nasty block that deserves to be celebrated as much as the touchdown.
Graham Barton threw a nasty block on Bucky Irving's first TD of the preseason
There are pancake blocks, there are skillful blocks, and then there's whatever freight train bulldozer block Barton did to clear the path for Irving.
It's not even like Barton was the reason Irving scored, as the block came on the edge of his touchdown run. He no doubt helped take a defender out, but it's the way he put his man on skates that makes this such a cool moment.
Preseason highlights are always tricky given the context, but seeing Barton do what he did is cathartic on a number of levels for Bucs fans. The offensive line has largely been in shambles for the last two seasons, which is why Tampa Bay used its first round pick on him to help fix things.
Specifically, the run game has been putrid for far too long, despite having talent like Rachaad White in the backfield. Irving showing some flash right out of the gate was fantastic to see, but Barton helping with some run blocking is a sight for sore eyes.
There are big expectations for him as an anchor alongside Tristan Wirfs, and while it's a very small sample size it's awesome to see him already playing like this.
