4 Buccaneers on the roster bubble ahead of training camp
By Brad Smith
Mike Greene, DT
Led by star defensive tackle Vita Vea, as well as defensive ends Calijah Kancey and Logan Hall, Tampa Bay's d-line totaled 91 tackles for loss and 48 sacks, the sixth and seventh marks in the league, respectively. This offseason, the Bucs still upgraded their d-line notably, re-signing defensive tackle Greg Gaines and defensive end Will Gholston, while inking Randy Gregory to a one-year deal
Throughout training camp, however, the coaching staff is likely hoping for some increased competition for the final “guaranteed” spot on the roster. Second-year lineman Mike Greene could fill that spot, but the defensive tackle struggled mightily last season.
Last season, Greene played in ten games and started in two, but made just 6 total tackles with no pressures, hurries, or sacks. With that, Greene earned a pitiful 40.4 grade from Pro Football Focus proving just how bad Greene was on the Bucs' defensive line.
This offseason, Greene has been competing with C.J. Brewer, who spent most of 2024 on the practice squad, newcomer Eric Banks, and others for the last spot. Even so, Greene's last of production calls for concern in terms of his future in Tampa Bay this season and moving forward.
