It's been an incredible start to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers season, but the accoaldes and praise goes well beyond how the standings look.
Sure the Bucs are 3-1, alone atop the NFC South, and forcing the offseason doubters to eat their words, but the season represents so much more than revenge. Tampa Bay has gotten a full team effort across the board, with its best players stepping up to lead and take charge.
That's something that was honored on Wednesday when the Bucs officially revealed the team captains for this season. It's a beautiful mix of veterans and first-time captains that truly represents how special the team is and the incredible players that make up the leadership group n the locker room.
Chris Godwin reacts to being named Buccaneers team captain
On Wedensday the Buccaneers revealed who the team had voted as its captains, and Chris Godwin heard his named called. It's the first time in his career that Godwin has received the honor, something that further reflects the impact he's had over the course of his career in Tampa Bay.
Godwin reacted to the news when speaking with the media after Wednesday's practice.
"I think it means a lot because it's indicative of what my teammates think of me," Godwin said. "I pride myself on being a hard worker and doing things the right way. I'm grateful and appreciative of my guys."
Godwin is in his his seventh season with the Bucs and has developed into not only one of the players on the team but in the entire league. Together with Mike Evans he's formed one of the best receiving duos in the NFL, and is already among the best offensive players the franchise has ever had.
Being named a team captain has been a long time coming.
2023 Tampa Bay Buccaneers captains revealed
Godwin isn't alone in being named a team captain this year. The Bucs voted a total of eight players to be their captains, and the list reads like a Pro Bowl roster of talent.
