2 winners (and 4 losers) from Buccaneers embarrassing 20-6 loss to Detroit
By Josh Hill
Loser: Carlton Davis III, CB
Twice Carlton Davis was baptized by a block, and both times the result was a huge play for the Detroit Lions offense.
The biggest was in the second quarter, when third-string running back Craig Reynolds lowered the boom stick on Davis which sprung Amon-Ra St. Brown for a touchdown. All due credit to Reynolds, who made an absolutely phenomenal block to take Davis out of the play and deserves half the points scored since he was so responsible for the score.
If Davis isn’t blocked by Reynolds, he probably makes a play and the Lions are kept out of the end zone for the time being.
Davis was also taken out on a huge third down conversion later in the game. Detroit was backed up by a penalty and the Bucs defense appeared to have shifted some momentum, only to allow the Lions to convert and extend the drive.
One again, Davis appeared to been taken out before he was about to make a meaningful tackle. It was just that kind of game for the Bucs, and the unlucky day Davis had was indicative of the afternoon as a whole.
