Week 3 didn't exactly go as planned for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who were stunned by a Denver Broncos team in a 26-7 loss on Sunday. However, it hasn't been all gloom and doom for the Bucs.

For the past week or so, watching former Bucs offensive coordinator and current Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales has provided plenty of entertainment for this fan base. By now, most have heard about the decision from Canales to go ahead and bench starting quarterback Bryce Young in favor of veteran Andy Dalton.

It only took Young, last year's no. 1 overall pick, two games to prove to Canales that he isn't the guy ... for now.

Although, the comments from Canales over the past week have been all over the place. Who knows what this guy is actually thinking?

After Young's rough Week 2 outing, Canales offered his support to the young quarterback.

"Bryce [Young] is our quarterback. I'd love to see this thing continue to take the next steps offensively right now," Canales said following the loss.

In what felt like moments later, Canales completely reversed script and opted to bench Young in favor of Dalton, who would go on to light it up in Week 3 and give the Panthers their first win of the season.

After that Week 3 victory, Canales' tune seemed to have totally changed:

"Andy's our quarterback. He gives us our best chance to win."

Well, which is it, Dave?

It's going to be difficult for the fan base, let alone his own players, to trust him based on the last week or so.

Did Dave Canales make the wrong move jumping ship after one year with the Bucs?

No one should fault him for taking a head coaching gig, but the idea of giving Canales a shot after just one year coordinating in Tampa Bay did always seem a little too soon.

Now, he's in position with a franchise that is clearly still far away from competing, with no real direction at the moment. Don't let the one win over Las Vegas fool you. That Panthers team still needs a whole lot of help. Its roster is still void of any legitimate, threatening playmakers.

Had Canales stayed another year in Tampa, maybe he'd be better suited to take on the role of a head coach in 2025. Better yet, he might have had a shot at a more appealing gig.

Take the Chicago Bears, for example, who boast another no. 1 overall pick in Caleb Williams. There's a good chance Matt Eberflus is fired. Canales may be kicking himself for jumping the gun just a bit if that job opens up.

For now, he'll have to figure out a way to direct that ship going forward in Carolina. And, Bucs fans can continue to sit back and laugh at the mockery he's made of that franchise at the moment.
