NFL Draft Day 2 Grades: Buccaneers absolutely nailed Friday with three huge picks
Tykee Smith - Round 3, Pick 89 - S - Georgia
The Bucs stayed in the SEC for this pick as they fortified their safety room with the addition of the gifted Tykee Smith.
Smith is not the biggest safety in the world at only 5'10 and a shade over 200 pounds, but he plays with a tenacity and intelligence not unlike a certain No. 31 in the Tampa secondary.
He has 4.4 speed and plays violently despite his lack of size and strength. He is still an above average tackler, although that might be a little tougher in the NFL. He led the Bulldogs in interceptions this past season showing he can also play the pass if needed.
With Antoine Winfield Jr. and Jordan Whitehead likely manning the frontlines at safety this coming season, Smith should have plenty of time to learn and grow behind them.
He is a definite weapon that could be used in nickel packages as a hybrid rover role, not unlike a younger Tyrann Matthieu.
