If you do read my betting preview, you'll find out that I think the Buccaneers are a great bet as underdogs this week. Not only do they match up well with the Lions, but they've thrived when set as underdogs this season.

Buccaneers Thrives as Underdogs

The Buccaneers, as a whole, are 9-3 against the spread this season when set as betting underdogs and 5-1 against the spread when set as underdogs of four points or more.

Here is how they fared as underdogs this season:

  • Week 1: +4 vs. Vikings (Won + covered)
  • Week 3: +5.5 vs. Eagles (Lost + did not cover)
  • Week 4: +4.5 vs. Saints (Won + covered)
  • Week 6: +3 vs. Lions (Lost + did not cover)
  • Week 8: +10 vs. Bills (Lost + covered)
  • Week 9 +2.5 vs. Texans (Lost + covered)
  • Week 11: +13.5 vs. 49ers (Lost + covered)
  • Week 12: +2.5 vs. Colts (Lost + did not cover)
  • Week 14: +1.5 vs. Falcons (Won + covered)
  • Week 15: +4 vs. Packers (Won + covered)
  • Week 16: +2.5 vs. Jaguars (Won + covered)
  • Wild Card Round: +3 vs. Eagles (Won + covered)

As you can see, not only did they go 9-3 when it comes to covering the spread as underdogs this season, but they went 6-6 straight up, including winning four-straight when set as the betting underdog.

Unfortunately, one of the few games they weren't able to cover the spread as 'dogs was their Week 6 game against the Lions, losing 20-6.

Will they get their revenge on Sunday afternoon? Time will tell.
