NFC South QB power rankings after final preseason game
By Ryan Heckman
1. Derek Carr, Saints
As the most experienced and accomplished quarterback in the NFC South, Derek Carr will currently occupy the top spot of our NFC South quarterback power rankings. It isn't too difficult to see why he's up there, either.
The Saints gave Carr a 4-year contract worth $150 million, showing faith in the former Raider and thinking that he can put them over the hump. Carr is the Raiders' all-time leading passer and a 4-time Pro Bowl selection. He's coming to the Saints after having played nine years with the Raiders.
Carr only played one preseason game this year, and justifiably so. The veteran doesn't need a whole lot of preseason action at this stage in his career, and of course the Saints don't want to risk injury to their new quarterback.
In that lone game, though, Carr went 6-for-8, threw for 70 yards and one touchdown.
With all of that said, if Carr comes out of the gate and struggles, Saints fans will start to feel like it's deja vu. Jameis Winston is still in New Orleans and is waiting for another opportunity. Should he get it at some point this season, these rankings could look much, much different.
