NFC South QB power rankings after Week 1
By Ryan Heckman
1. Derek Carr, Saints
One of the weirder, more boring games on Sunday happened between the New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans. There was not a lot of offense, with only one touchdown and a total of eight field goals made.
However, Derek Carr had himself a pretty solid game overall and threw for 305 yards on 23-of-33 passing. Carr tossed one touchdown later in the game to second-year receiver Rashid Shaheed and also threw an interception.
You could argue Baker belongs atop the list since he played turnover-free and made a couple of key, big time plays to seal the victory. But, Carr did throw for over 100 more yards than Mayfield and that's what puts him slightly over the top, here.
Now, despite Carr's 300-plus yards, there were a few throws that got away from him and where he looked quite a bit off. Maybe it was due to miscommunication, but he definitely gave fans a couple of "uh oh" type moments that didn't end up resulting in disaster.
Next week, Carr will take on Bryce Young on Monday Night Football.
