10 quarterbacks who could be the Bucs' starter in 2024
By Ryan Heckman
This season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers started out 3-1 only to topple down to 3-5 after four losses in a row.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield has been fine this season, but is not necessarily a reason for the Bucs to be excited. If anything, Tampa Bay should be looking forward to 2024 and what their options might include at the quarterback position.
With that in mind, let's look at 10 of the best quarterback options for the Bucs next offseason.
1. Jameis Winston, FA
First up, how about a reunion? The Saints gave Derek Carr a long-term deal and appear to be set with Taysom Hill as a gadget player for the near future, meaning the soon-to-be free agent Jameis Winston will likely be looking for a new team.
Winston believes he can still play, and he might deserve another shot. How likely would it be for him to return to Tampa? Probably not too likely. Still, it would be one heck of a story. The guy who once threw 30 interceptions in a season returns to the same team he did so with ... yes, that would be quite the situation.
2. Joshua Dobbs, FA
One guy who might be playing his way to a future contract elsewhere is journeyman Joshua Dobbs, who has played for what seems like a dozen teams over his career. After being traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Minnesota Vikings just last week, Dobbs came in and led Minnesota to a victory, continuing their comeback on the season.
Dobbs is a nice dual-threat option who could come in as yet another bridge quarterback, but isn't necessarily a long-term option. He'd be a great candidate to help along a rookie quarterback, but not someone the Bucs could bank on for years to come.
