Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White probably wishes he had a time machine right about now. The long-time Buc, now Raider was gearing up to play against Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 and White was feeling confident about the matchup, one that the Chiefs would end up winning 31-0 over the Raiders.
White sounded off about his previous experience playing Mahomes, with the highlight being his and the Bucs' domination over him in Super Bowl 55. White vowed he'd have his Raiders squad ready to battle against the three-time Super Bowl winning quarterback.
"For me alone, it's just I ain't scared. I know a lot of people look at him for what he is. The guy won three Super Bowls and whatnot, obviously, but it's just good to have experience being able to play him," White said. "I treat every game like a big game, but to go on the road and be able to go in their house when they got a good stadium and be able to do what we do. So, I know I'm going to be poised and I'll have my guys ready to play."
Well, as we all saw, White and the Raiders were not ready to play. Mahomes had a field day at Arrowhead, tossing for 286 yards and three touchdowns and was pulled by the end of the third quarter due to the Chiefs' massive lead.
Former Bucs LB Devin White talked the talk but didn't walk the walk vs. Chiefs
It gets worse for the former Buc though. White was also very confident that he'd prevent tight end Travis Kelce from having a big day and, again, that didn't age well.
"Devin White gone win. That's all. Devin White gone win when I'm against him," White said.
Kelce finished the day with three catches for 54 yards, which led the Chiefs on Sunday. The Raiders getting blown out and shut out is bad enough on its own but White's trash talk leading into the matchup made things so much worse for him and the rest of his team.
Bucs fans are all too familiar with White and his trash-talking ways, as the linebacker spent five years in Tampa before spending the 2024 season with the Texans and now is in Las Vegas for the 2025 season. While things didn't end great between White and the Bucs, he did take the highroad after GM Jason Licht had thrown some shade his way, so it hasn't been all bad since he's left.
That being said, Bucs fans weren't surprised to see him and the Raiders eat their words against the Chiefs. This year's Raiders team is hardly the 2020 Bucs squad that dominated Kansas City in the Super Bowl and White clearly didn't realize that. Sometimes, it's better to just not say anything and focus on the task at hand.
