While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were busy putting together what's hopefully a killer draft class, it was hard for Bucs fans not to look around at what their division rivals were doing with their draft picks.
It didn't take long for Bucs fans to get some comedic material, as the New Orleans Saints, who held the eighth pick in the second round, decided to not only take a quarterback but a 'what the heck' quarterback.
With the 40th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Saints selected Tyler Shough out of Louisville and man oh man, is that comedy gold for Bucs fans or what? Forget the whole Shedeur Sanders sliding thing, the Saints went with a quarterback who they probably could have gotten much later in the draft and who spent seven total years in college at three different schools with their early second-round pick.
The jokes write themselves.
Saints drafting Tyler Shough has Buccaneers fans howling with laughter
While the Saints had 15 years of Drew Brees at the most important position in the NFL, they've struggled to find a consistent signal-caller since Brees retired following the 2020 season. They've tried to make it work with former Bucs castoff Jameis Winston, Trevor Siemian, and recently Derek Carr and nothing has stuck for the black and gold.
Meanwhile, the Bucs have had solid quarterback luck, beginning with the signing of Tom Brady and then transitioning into the Baker Mayfield years. If the Buccaneers didn't have Mayfield slinging the pigskin all over the field for them, maybe laughing at the Saints here wouldn't work but that's not the timeline we live in.
Shough is walking into a rough situation in New Orleans and might be forced into starting sooner than he's ready due to all of the Carr drama in the Big Easy. If that ends up being the case, it'll be more tears from laughter for Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans. What a time to be alive.
