Once again, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have spent much of their offseason retaining their best players. Continuity means a whole heck of a lot to Jason Licht and he has proved that time and time again.
While the Bucs have brought back some notable names, they've also welcomed a few new faces as well.
The first wave of free agency is essentially over, with the craziness having died down. But, there are still a good amount of players searching for jobs, including some names Bucs fans will recognize.
Which notable Buccaneers free agents are still without a job?
Mike Edwards, S
After playing four years in Tampa Bay, Mike Edwards was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs for a season before joining the Buffalo Bills and then coming back to the Bucs. Now a free agent, still, Edwards has made 30 starts over the course of his career and would still offer strong depth for a team needing a safety.
Chase Edmonds, RB
This might be it for the veteran running back. It feels like he's been in the league forever, but Chase Edmonds is set to turn 29 in April. Now, that said, 28 is the age in which a running back typically hits a wall in the NFL, and it appears as though Edmonds has done so. He played on just 18 percent of offensive snaps last year (41 percent on special teams, however) and the Bucs have some other young backs who are taking up more playing time.
Related Bucs news:
Ryan Neal, S
A player many Bucs fans wouldn't want to see put on the pewter uniforms again, safety Ryan Neal is unsurprisingly still a free agent. There isn't much that needs to be said other than the idea he can stay far, far away from Tampa. But, in case you were wondering, Neal gave up a perfect passer rating over his 2023 campaign (13 games). He only played 17 defensive snaps in 2024 after being mostly a practice squad player.
Shaquil Barrett, OLB
A fan favorite and one who came out of retirement last year to join the Bucs' playoff run, Shaquil Barrett seemed like a guy who wanted to continue playing after coming back to the game. The 32-year-old owns the Bucs' franchise record for sacks in a season and, now that Tampa Bay continues to be competitive, could land back with his beloved Bucs. Taking his time seems to be a privilege he's earned at this point.
Royce Newman, G
The veteran guard only appeared in one game last season for the Bucs after spending three seasons with the Packers. He made 24 starts in Green Bay before becoming a reserve in Tampa Bay and turns 28 in August.
