The Tampa Bay Buccaneers played their best game of the season on Sunday, dominating the Panthers en route to a 43-13 victory.

Still, the Buccaneers have a lot of work to do to turn this season around. After all, they’re still just 2-5, and they’ve got another key divisional game next weekend against the Atlanta Falcons.

Todd Bowles set the tone perfectly after the game and delivered the message the team needed to hear.

Todd Bowles delivered the message the Buccaneers needed to hear after Week 7 win

Never too high, never too low. Bowles’ stoic nature was on full display when he addressed the Buccaneers in the locker room following their statement win in Carolina.

“Now that’s what team football is all about right there. Run the ball down their throat, turnovers on defense, doing a hell of a job of coverage on special teams. That’s what it’s supposed to look like. Now come tomorrow, you can’t lose this attitude… We talked about this, we got another one next week. Enjoy the plane ride, watch the film, make the corrections, we gotta go back to attitude on f***ing Wednesday. Hell of a job, let’s go home.”

When Bowles said Wednesday, he misspoke. The Bucs are getting right back to business, and Bowles was sure to correct himself.

“[If] you win three in a row you’ll get a Wednesday.”

Say what you will about Bowles, but he’s got complete command of this locker room, and his message is exactly what this team needs to hear at this point of the season.

The Bucs earned the right to enjoy this win, but this can’t be a one-off. Tampa Bay has a legitimate chance to get back into the NFC South race.

If the Buccaneers beat the Falcons next week and the Panthers lose to the Packers on Thursday Night Football, Tampa Bay will be just a half-game out of first place in the division.

It’s clear Bowles isn’t going to let his team lose focus with such a big week ahead. They need to keep the same desperate, hungry mentality that fueled their dominant win over the Panthers.

Bowles gets a lot of flak from the fanbase, but he managed to keep this locker room fully bought in despite a 1-5 start, and they’ve still got a chance to make a playoff push. Not to mention, his defense is firing on all cylinders and is one of the best in the NFL. He deserves credit for keeping this team together and giving the Buccaneers a chance to turn their season around.
