With just two games left in the season, everything is coming down to the wire for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It shouldn’t be this way, but that’s what happens when a team that’s supposed to take care of business fails to do so. Last week the Bucs could have moved a giant step closer to locking up another NFC South title, but instead are out of the playoff picture looking for a lucky break to allow them back in.
That could happen with a win over the Panthers on Sunday coupled with a loss by the Falcons up in Landover. Atlanta playing Washington breaks in favor of the Bucs, but first they’ll need to take care of business on their own.
As we’ve seen a few times this season, that’s much easier said than done.
What channel is the Buccaneers game on today? (December 29th)
For the third time this season the Buccaneers are going to playing a game that is broadcast on CBS. It’s also the second time in two years that a game against the Panthers is on CBS, all of which bodes well for Tampa Bay from a vibes perspective.
The Bucs are 2-0 in games on CBS this year, with wins over the Giants and Raiders. It should be a similar case against the Panthers, but we all know how nothing comes easy for the Bucs even when it should.
Few teams have managed to get in their own way more than Tampa Bay, with last Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys sticking out as a shining example. So too is the team’s near-miss against the Panthers at the beginning of December when they needed overtime and a lucky fumble to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
The stakes are similar a month later, which is depressing but also business the Bucs need to take care of. A loss would take them out of playoff contention, either mathematically or logically.

Ian Eagle will be working his second game in five days, as he was part of Netflix’s Christmas Day slate of games. The weather in Tampa is a little nicer than what he was dealing with up in Pittsburgh on Wedensday, so at least he has that going for him.
Hopefully he gets a breezy game to call, but we’ll see if the Bucs can hold up their end of that bargain.
