Buccaneers Offseason Wish List #1

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News, Rumors | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

I figured I’m going to put out one of these offseason wish lists every other week as the offseason progresses.  As I mentioned the other day there are a ton of issues that were exposed in the last 4 weeks of the year, and this is the offseason we must address them.  Let’s get right to it.
1.        Replace Todd Wash (Defensive Line Coach) and Casey Bradley (Linebackers Coach) with ex-Bucs coaches Rod Marinelli (Defensive Line) and Jon Barry (Linebackers Coach).   Unless either of those guys wants to take time off from the game, which very well could be the case for Rod Marinelli, they probably have little chance [...]

Caddy’s Injury Not As Bad As Originally Feared

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Bucs | COMMENTS: None Yet

Cadillac Williams confirmed today that his torn patella tendon is not the same injury that he suffered last year versus the Panthers.
“It is. It’s torn, but it’s not the severity of the last one,” Williams said, referring to the torn patellar injury in Week 4 at Carolina in the 2007 season. “It’s more of an off the bone tear, so this process should be much easier.
“That’s the encouraging word,” Jon Gruden said. “It’s a patellar injury that is the same type of injury that Mark Jones had. Mark Jones, obviously, has returned to full health. It will be another grueling [...]

The Grandiose Choke Job Comes To a Conclusion

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yesterday was a real tough day for me personally, and I’m sure throngs of other Bucs fans across the country.  28 days ago, going into week 13’s Monday Night Football Game against the Carolina Panthers, we had a chance to lock up the division, and end up on a collision course with the #1 seed in the NFC.  Now, I sit here this morning, and write this article as our beloved team is cleaning out their lockers and figuring out where they’ll play golf for the next 7 months.   The hardest part for me, is not just the 4 game [...]

Buccaneers Made The Perfect Choice

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Breaking News, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

A few weeks ago when Lane Kiffin was hired on as the head coach at the University of Tennessee and most presumed Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin would soon follow, The Pewter Plank speculated on the possible replacement choices for Kiffin.  Number one on our list was Defensive Backs Coach Raheem  Morris.  On Christmas Day the Bucs announced that they would hire Morris to replace Kiffin as the Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator.
Pewter Report is reporting that the deal is a two year deal that will put him in the “upper echelon” of first year coordinators.
I personally feel that no better replacement [...]

42 Points At Home…For Real?

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The last few weeks have been a total wreck for diehard Bucs fans.   Before our game vs the Panthers, we had a decent shot at the number one seed in the NFC.  Three ass kickings later, we are fighting to make the playoffs next week.
We no longer control our own destiny after yesterday’s drubbing at home by the Chargers.  We must beat the Raiders at home, and the Eagles must beat the Cowboys at home, for us to be able to crawl in (like a dog that just got hit by a car that slowly crawls back to his front [...]

Buccaneers Injury Updates

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The most important issue heading into this weeks game, is the injuries that are continuing to pile up for the Buccaneers.
Jovan Haye and Chris Hovan both particapated fully in practice.  After giving up 13,000 yards rushing the last two games, this is an important development.  Although both guys are not big names in the NFL world, they are both very effective players, as evidenced by the ass kickings we’ve received on the ground the two weeks they have been out.
Gaines Adams and Greg White were limited in practice.  The participation by Hovan and Haye is almost negated by the lack [...]

Snubbed?

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

After looking at the NFC Pro Bowl Roster yesterday evening I was happy to see a couple Bucs on the roster.  Derrick Brooks made his 12th consecutive Pro Bowl (after being inserted as an alternate last year) and undrafted rookie return man Clifton Smith was selected to his first Pro Bowl.
I was hoping that the league would take notice of Smith’s numbers and not select Devin Hester solely because of the name, and it appears the fans and the players and coaches took notice.
The one player I’m dissapointed to not see on the roster is Mike Linebacker Barrett Ruud.  He [...]

Will Injuries Continue To Derail Our Season

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Coupled with the loss to the Falcons on Sunday, which after the Cowboys/Giants game knocked us out of the playoffs, the Bucs had a few major injuries.
Jermaine Phillips broke his forearm and is out for the season.
Jeff Garcia, Jovan Haye, and Chris Hovan are all still listed as questionable on the injury report.
Derrick Brooks injured his ribs on Sunday and will also be listed as questionable.
Gaines Adams will also be listed on the injury report with a hip-pointer.
Our starting defensive line could be starting 3 different guys than are currently listed as tops on the depth chart.  One starting linebacker [...]

Good God…Stylez G. White?

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

I’m sorry I don’t have a game review up yet…I’m still digesting yellow penalty flags and sacks from yesterday.  It’ll be up tommorow when I have a chance to rewatch the game in a non-emtional way (I’ll try).
There is some interesting news out of Buccaneer World today.  Greg White has officially changed his name from Gregory Alphonso White Jr. to Stylez G. White.
White said the inspiration came from the movie Teen Wolf, Ruper Stiles Stilinski was the best friend of Michael J Fox.
I want to continue to comment on this, but I think the actual story in itself is funnier [...]

Antonio Bryant…Misunderstood?

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just got finished reading a great piece by Sean Jensen on Yahoo about Bucs receiver Antonio Bryant.  It aims to clarify the situations that Bryant had earlier in his career.  It seems like some people just assume that Bryant is a terrible person because of mainly a run in with coach Bill Parcells, but this season Bryant is dispelling many of those preconceived notions.  Read the article, good stuff Jensen.
“You got guys who beat manslaughter charges. You got all kinds of dudes with off-the-field problems,” says Bryant, who’s with his fourth NFL team in six seasons. “I don’t beat girlfriends. I [...]
